SEAT flips Netflix: the 600 wasn't the insult, it was the compliment
On 3 April 2020, the day part four of Money Heist premiered, Netflix España tweeted a line from the show: “ERES UN MASERATI. No te quedes con alguien que te trate como un 600.” (“You're a Maserati. Don't settle for someone who treats you like a SEAT 600.”) That same night, the SEAT España account replied standing up for its most iconic model. The exchange went viral and was picked up by several Spanish outlets.
«@NetflixES A menos que "tratarte como a un 600" signifique cuidarte durante los próximos 50 años y vivir el resto de aventuras de tu vida juntos 😉»
Netflix wasn't attacking anyone: it used the 600 as shorthand for “not much”, and that is precisely the gap SEAT spots. Instead of defending itself, it changes what the comparison is about — from status to care — and turns a 1960s runabout into a fifty-year love story. Opening with “Unless” is half the answer on its own: it doesn't contradict the original tweet, it completes it, and that opening concession is what keeps the brand from sounding wounded and demanding a correction. The closing emoji works as a fuse, marking the whole thing as a game between accounts rather than a formal complaint. The real risk was the usual one — correcting a bigger brand and coming off as thin-skinned — and it's dodged by not arguing with the joke but extending it.
