El Mundo Today put Munch's The Scream on the helpline and Movistar played along
The satirical paper El Mundo Today published that Munch's The Scream had found work as a call-centre operator on the company's customer helpline. Rather than ignoring the joke or asking for it to be taken down, the Movistar España account joined in and replied as though it were just another staffing matter.
«@elmundotoday Le hemos pasado a Atención en RRSS. La angustia vital que provoca es más llevadera en Twitter ;)»
The hard part about answering a parody of your own customer service is not getting defensive. Here they do not merely accept the joke: they extend it, reassigning The Scream to the channel where its anguish performs best. Acknowledging the jab and placing yourself inside it is one of the most elegant moves a brand can make.
